Holidays at the Candlelite Inn

The Harney Tea Tasting & Inn Tour was this past weekend and was a great success. The Inn was all decked out in their holiday finery. Holiday Tea from Harney &Sons was the Candlelite Inn's tea for tasting. A blend of black tea, cinnamon, almond, cloves and citrus. Proceeds of the ticket sales went to the NH Food Bank. If you are still looking for a mini getaway this holiday season, we still have rooms available. Relax by a cozy fire as you try your hand at one of our puzzles; or spend a quiet evening in the parlor sipping a mug of hot chocolate and reading a good book. Enjoy our holiday decorations, food and the Inn. A complimentary cheese tray & Holiday Tea will be served. So make your reservations early, for this offer is good until Christmas.

Haunting Whisper Vineyard

Labor Day weekend, my husband, daughter, a friend and myself went over to Haunting Whisper Vineyard in Danbury. The view was incredible as you look down over the vineyards. The wine was fantastic. They had mostly white wines, but by the end of the year, reds were being introduced. Eric, of course, was very knowledgeable. As we tasted the various wines, he talk about the flavor that you would be tasting. He is planning to have wine tasting parties in the future. So if you are in the neighborhood and want to try some local wine, make Haunting Whisper Vineyard a must stop.

The weather has been beautiful these passed few days. As I take my early morning or afternoon walk the fall colors are magnificent. Yesterday morning's walk there was a light breeze and as I was walking the leaves were floating around me. The colors are going to be just as good if not better than last year. The weather has been perfect with warm days and cool evening.

Recipe: Mixed Berry-Corn Mini Loaves

What’s great about this

recipe is that you can make mini loaves or muffins. Try using different fruit, such as blackberries, strawberries, peaches, rhubarb. Also toast them for breakfast.

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup corn, canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tsp finely shredded orange peel
  • ¾ cup raspberries
  • ¾ cup blueberry
  • Non stick cooking spray

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat five 5-3/4x3x2 inch disposable foil loaf pans with cooking spray. In a large bowl combine cornmeal, flour, sugar baking powder and salt. Add milk, oil, eggs and orange peel. Stir to combine. Gently stir in raspberries and blueberries. Evenly divide batter among loaf pans. Bake until tops are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Bake 18-20 minutes for loaves; 12-15 minutes for muffins. Cool in pans for 5 minutes. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack before serving. Serve with flavored butter or flavored cream cheese.

Makes: 5 loaves or 12-14 muffins.
